LEGACY OF KAIN: REMASTERED

Brief

To mark the launch of the remastered PlayStation classic, Soul Reaver, we teamed up with our friends at KWM to create two trailers, bringing Raziel, Kain, and the gang back to life.

The challenge? Everyone loves the original, so we had to stay true to the iconic look. That didn’t stop us from leveling things up - just a touch.

Raziel with glowing eyes, a scarf covering the lower face, unleashing yellow lightning from his sword, set against a teal portal.
Soul Reaver. A fantasy scene with a character holding a glowing orb and another character in a hooded robe, facing each other with serious expressions.

Behind the scenes

We were supplied characters and props from the game which we adapted to work within our pipeline. The assets were re-rigged, shaders improved, and everything was given a subtle upgrade.

Key environments and levels were also recreated using the original references, with extra details sneakily added wherever possible. It was actually a lot of fun replicating those old low-poly textures - proper 90’s nostalgia.

Finally, our animators and FX artists brought the trailers to life - adding smoke, fire, and other effects to give the scenes that extra punch and make them feel truly epic.

A sequence of animated characters in a dimly lit, foggy setting. The first frame shows an illuminated circle on the ground. The second frame features a humanoid character in armor with glowing eyes. In the third frame, a robed wizard-like figure engaging in conversation with a masked character. The fourth frame is a close-up of the masked character's face with glowing eyes. The fifth and sixth frames continue showing the masked character in different angles with intense expression and glowing eyes.
